David asks…
Can anyone explain this quote?
Hi can anyone explain this quote by Publius Cornelius Tacitus (56 – 106 AD)
“The principle office of history I take to be this: to prevent virtuous actions from being forgotten, and that evil words and deeds should fear an infamous reputation with posterity.”
I understand the first part, but the section about evil words and posterity completely confuses me!
admin answers:
The second part means that evil words and deeds would be remembered as being evil.
