How does Obama stack up?

“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” ~ Preamble to the Constitution

This preamble sets the purpose of the US Federal Government as set down by our Founding Fathers. Please explain how Obama embodies all of these ideals of national unity, justice, peace, defense, well-being, and liberty?

Convince me why I should vote for him.

I will answer for both this Obama and your McCain questions together.

National Unity- They have both been trying to pit Liberals and Conservatives against each other, they don’t want unity because then we the people might realize neither one is good for America. More importantly both want to remove our national sovereignty and create a One World Government.

Justice and Liberty- I put both together because the lack of civil liberties that both support are the root cause of the true lack of Justice left in this country. Particularly the Republican party for the last 12+ years has been saying they want Judges that will rule based on the Constitution, yet all they want is Judges that will rule based on THEIR idea of what the Constitution should have said, what we need is actual Constitutionalists on the bench.

Peace and Defense- Almost 2 sides of the national security coin, they might both be okay with this, except neither would fix the corrupt nature that the DOD has fallen into, you hear about $1,000 Pencils every couple of years, but does anyone try to stop the padding of costs?

Well-being- Not sure I can answer this. I would think that most of the people that support the winner will sleep well at night, not aware of the risk we run with that person in charge, while the supporters of the 2nd place candidate will be worried for the next 4 years that the country is going to ruins, which it might well be, but not for the reasons they think it will (notice I only include 2nd place, the ones below that for the most part understand the real problems).

Rewrite the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution in words that have meaning to you: “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution, for the United States of America.”

I have no idea how to start, so a little assistance would be great. You could just write a sentence… or more.

The questions says: “words that have meaning to YOU”, so the best thing is for YOU to try first.

Take each phrase as it comes and put it into your own words. Imagine you are speaking to a non-US person or someone who has not been brought up in a democracy and explain what it means to them.

Something like this:

“We the people of the United States” could become “All of us here in the United States…” [I chose to keepp united States, because it is more than the name of a country, it is a description of the nature of government in that country.]
“in order to form a more perfect Union” could become “so as to build the most solidly united association…”
“establish Justice” could become ” give everyone a fair hearing and fair treatment.”
And so on.
If you are not sure of the meaning of a word, use an online dictionary.
If you want to look for other words that mean the same, use an online thesaurus.

I have every confidence that when you have finished thinking and writing about this, you will have a berret personal understanding of and commitment to your constitution. If you see flaws in it, you have a wonderfully democratic right to lobby and vote!

For the same reason that Benjamin Franklin, when asked by a common woman what the Bill of Rights and Constitution gave to the people, answered, “A Republic…if you can keep it.”

Our Founding Fathers were wise men. They lived in a different time, with different principles, and it’s a shame that the current world circumstance encourages ignorance, selfishness, and disregard for the future.

What does this sentence mean?

My manager tagged a photo of me with him and my bosses, smiling, standing next to each other, and then the caption said: “There’s your customary pose for posterity” what does that mean?

It’s nothing bad.

He means that it’s common to take photos such as that when the “brass” are in town. He’s providing you a copy of the photo for you to keep forever (“for posterity”).
